Our Hokitika campus is a satellite office from the main
campus at Greymouth and offers a variety of courses for
learners of all ages. We cater for both Youth and Adults
who wish to continue their education.
With only one Tutor running the course you will find that
Hokitika has a small friendly atmosphere with an average
of around 12 learners throughout the year.
What can I study in Hokitika?
We have many nationally recognised Certificates available for
study through Karoro Learning. All of which are achieved
through the completion of N.Z.Q.A. registered Unit Standards
which you complete at a pace that best suits you.
National Certificate of Educational Achievement (N.C.E.A.)
Level 1, 2 & 3
These have replaced School Certificate and Sixth Form
Certificate and Seventh Form Certificate and
can be achieved by studying maths, English and a
variety of other N.Z.Q.A units available through
Karoro Learning. Both Youth and Adult learners
are welcome to study for these certificates.
National Certificate in Computing (N.C.I.C) Levels
2 & 3
This certificate will help you to gain a good level of
knowledge with most aspects of general computing.
You don't any computing skills to study these courses
as they are available for beginners as well as those
who have some pre-existing skills.
National Certificate in Computing and Business Administration
(N.C.B.A.) Level 2
These certificates are best started after completing the
N.C.I.C. Level 2 as they combine computing skills long
with the clerical aspect of working in an office environment.
These are ideal for both Youth and Adult learners who
would like
to work in an office environment.
National Certificate in Employment Skills (N.C.E.S.) Level 1
The skills gained in achieving this Certificate have been
identified by a wide range of employers as being important
in the workplace. In addition, this qualification is intended
to act as a springboard from which people may progress
towards other qualifications.
National Certificate in Mathematics (N.C.I.M.) Level 1
This national certificate recognises a range of basic
mathematical skills that provide a foundation for further
learning in mathematics and/or for any line of employment
that requires the application of such skills.
Course Information
You can enrol any time of the year and study
for as long as you need to in order to achieve your
qualifications and goals.
Your tutor will assist and guide you through
this, creating an achievable pathway with
measurable goals towards your desired
qualifications. This can include other areas
of study such as; gaining your drivers licence
and Distance Learning programs from other
providers where appropriate.
The course runs Monday – Friday:
- Mon - Thur - 9:00am - 3:00pm
- Fridays - 9:00am - 12:00pm
(which is 25 hours per week)
The course is usually free to students under
18 and those
who have been referred by
Work and Income, however some special
conditions
do apply.
The study environment in Hokitika is self-paced
individual
learning so you can take as long or
as little time as you need to complete
the
unit standards.
