Standard Cost : $25.00. This is for 7 hours study and covers the cost for your online tests.

Discounts & Surcharges (Discounts only available for on-line registrations)

Early Registration: If you register on-line at least a week prior to the start of a course then you will usually qualify for a $5.00 early registration discount

Unwaged: If you live in a household where nobody has paid employment of more than 20 hours per week then please feel free to use the “Promo Code” of  unwaged to receive a $15 discount – so some courses will be completely free of charge!

Non-Residents: If you are not a New Zealand resident, then sadly, your course will cost more than for residents (who receive a government subsidy).

School Students: Where an ACE course falls outside of ordinary school hours, secondary school students aged 16 years or older may be enrolled in this course provided that they supply written approval from their school principal.

For Secondary School Students

It is a great idea to make the most of the time that you have at school. Don’t leave school until you really have given it your best shot. There are fewer opportunities in life for those who leave school too early (especially without NCEA Level 2) – a lifetime of poverty could be staring you in the face.

Have you heard about the Mawhera Services Academy and the West Coast Trades Academy?  Talk with your school about these school programmes.  You might gain a Trade qualification, or prepare for the Services while you’re still at school!

Recent School Leavers

(Note: For the ‘Youth Guarantee’ programmes you must be aged 16 or 17 on the start date or be 15 with a school exemption.)

• Learning for Earning: 4 February – A free full-time Youth Guarantee programme that will enable you to gain your driver’s licence and complete NZQA Qualifications including:

• NCEA L1 and/or L2 (Endorsed in a vocational pathway),
• National Certificate in Employment Skills L1,
• National Certificate in Computing L2 and/or L3
• National Certificate in Business Administration & Computing L2,
• National Certificate in Driving L2.

The environment is quite different to school. You will need to work hard, but you will be in a small class and will receive a lot of personal support from staff who get to know you really well.  At Karoro Learning we have a strong focus on preparing you for, and helping you in to, work or further training at the end of your course.

• Literacy & Numeracy Support: 4 February – A free part-time programme to help you lift your skills in reading, writing, communicating, and maths – focussed on your personal learning needs.

• ACE: Various dates – Very low cost short courses of short duration to provide you with skills in a whole range of areas.

• NEET Service – If you are 16 or 17 and you are not in education, training, or employment, you can register with us to receive free support to help you make plans for your future. Give us a call and ask about the ‘NEET Service”.

Courses for Registered Job-Seekers

Note that the following courses may be free if you are currently receiving a benefit. Referral from Work & Income is essential, so enquiries should be directed to Work & Income.

• Commercial Driving: 6 May for up to 13 weeks  – Gain a Class 2 or 4 licence and specific endorsement/s, with a focus on job-seeking skills and getting a job.
• Worx4U:  11 February for up to 13 weeks – Gain skills & confidence for obtaining work. We will support you to get a job while you are engaged in this programme.
• Skills for Work: 4 February (onward) for up to 26 weeks – Gain a range of work skills including computer skills, customer service skills, driving skills, health & safety, job-seeking skills, literacy & numeracy support etc.
• PC Skills for Work (Distance Learning): 4 February for up to 26 weeks  – A distance learning course for job-seekers who need computer skills but can’t get to a regular class to get these skills. Job-search skills and generic employment skills are also included. (Available throughout the West Coast)

Public courses for all adults

• Literacy & Numeracy Support: A free part-time programme to help you lift your skills in reading, writing, communicating, and maths. (100 hours of training in total)
• ACE: Very low cost community education classes to provide you with skills in a whole range of interest areas.

Free transport or transport assistance may be available for students from many nearby locations

The NEET servive for Youth offers 1:1 support to help you work out your plans for getting in to suitable training that will help you to achieve your life goals.  This service is free and confidential for 16 and 17 year olds (and some 15 year olds) who are not engaged in education, employment or training.

In the pre-”Christmas Rush” we have a selection of 26 ACE courses for you to choose from! (as of today). There has to be something for everyone! These courses benefit our community – Share the word!

The Greymouth District Youth Service was launched at Karoro Learning on Wednesday 22 August. It is aimed at helping 16 – 17 year-olds take their next step through training, work or further education.

Youth coaches will help young school leavers look at their strengths and their options in the Greymouth area so they get the best start into the future.

Grey Life Learning has partnered with Karoro Learning to run the service in Greymouth. They will be working closely with secondary schools in the area so that they can be there to provide help if a student is at risk of leaving school early, with options such as helping them continue with their learning alongside a pathway to training through a range of providers in the area and tapping into tertiary education opportunities such as the Youth Guarantee programme.

Learn the basics of Harakeke weaving. You will learn to weave a variety of flax flowers, a bracelet, a small bowl and a small mat. You will also learn the kopapa (protocol) of flax.

Thursdays – from: 1 November 2012 – 10.00am to 2.00pm.

This month marks the one year anniversary since Karoro Learning introduced its on-line pre-enrolment process for our Learn@Home Computing/Business Admin course. We are marking the occasion by giving away a free enrolment for one lucky person who has not yet enrolled with us.

We have enrolled over 200 students over the past year, but sadly, many who wish to enrol miss out because their  Training Incentive Allowance Application is declined by Work & Income.  If you would still like to enrol in our course, then we’d like to offer you a second chance!
