Learn@Home Computer Training (New Zealand wide – for DPB & Invalids)

Karoro Learning provides computer training by distance to beneficiaries all around New Zealand. Students can study in their own home, at their own pace. Karoro Learning has been approved by Work and Income as a provider of employment related training.

The Learn@Home programme takes place over 25 weeks. You can start at any time of the year. You work at your own pace using our training materials and computers. Tutors are available by freephone and e-mail between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm Monday – Friday.

Everything needed for the course is supplied to you, this includes:

  • Loan of a laptop computer
  • Supportive personal tutors, contactable by email and toll-free number
  • 66 hours of free internet (if you have a telephone line and don’t already have an internet connection.)
  • Workbooks which you can keep and write on
  • Free postage to us

Free Training – No Student Loan needed!

You may be eligible for the Training Incentive Allowance if you are the recipient of one of the following benefits: We are an approved course by WINZ.

  • Domestic Purposes or Carers Benefit
  • Invalids
  • Widows

If this is the case, then the allowance can pay for the full cost of the course.  The course will be ‘free’ to you and you won’t need a Student Loan! If this applies to you, then we encourage you to use our express pre-enrolment process to start the application process today!

What can I learn?

Karoro Certificate in Computing
  • Prerequisites: You must be a confident reader
  • You will learn computer skills for the workplace using the Microsoft Office suite
  • This includes word-processing, spreadsheets and more.
  • You will gain credits for unit standards that contribute towards the National Certificate in Computing Level 2.
National Certificate in Computing Level 2
  • Prerequisites: Karoro Certificate in Computing (or equivalent)
  • This certificate builds on the topics of the Karoro Certificate in Computing
  • You will learn about desktop publishing, email and the integration of computer applications.
National Certificate in Computing Level 3
  • Prerequisites: National Certificate in Computing Level 2
  • You will learn more about the subjects in the Certificate in Computing (Level 2) plus you will learn about powerpoint for presentations and advanced word processing and desktop publishing.
Karoro Certificate in Business Skills
  • Prerequisites: Karoro Certificate in Computing (or equivalent)
  • This course provides additional skills for the office and self-employment.
  • You will learn about health and safety in the workplace, financial administration and the MYOB accounting package.
  • Upon completion of this course, you may have the option of taking additional units (a Special Course) to achieve a National Certificate in Business Administration and Computing at Level 2 or 3.

  • If you have already completed some of the unit standards required for our courses we can tailor a special course to your needs.

How do I apply?

  • Use the Express Pre-enrolment form to pre-enrol for the programme. We will then send you everything you need to complete your enrolment and apply for the Training Incentive Allowance.

You can download an application form and brochure using the Download links to the right.  (Requires Adobe Reader) This may take some time if you are using a dial-up modem! The application form can be printed OK to an A4 page, but the brochure is not suitable for home printing.
